The MIT Museum reopens on October 2, 2022, in a new building at 314 Main Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts, just around the corner from the Media Lab. We're thrilled to welcome our friends at the Museum to Kendall Square! We're also pleased that a number of Media Lab projects will be on display in the Museum's new space, and some of the first performances and lectures at the Museum will include members of the Media Lab community.

Lectures and Performances: 

  • Tod Machover will conduct his Brain, Body + Breath performances on 10/14 and 10/15. 
  • Dava Newman will be a speaker during The Power of Design (part of the official launch of the MIT Morningside Academy for Design) on 10/18.  

Cambridge Science Festival:
This week-long celebration, which is based at the Museum but extends across the city of Cambridge, contains all the magic and mayhem of modern science in an action-packed program of events, demonstrations, workshops, and performances! Explore Media Lab contributions to the festivities below: all of these events and performances are free, but require registration, as space is limited.

  • 10/5, 5pm ET, Bartos Theater (E15-70): NeuraFutures Lecture on the fiction and science of brain interfacing. There will also be guided tours of the NeuraFutures exhibit in the Media Lab lobby on 10/5–10/8; you can reserve a slot using this Calend.ly link.
  • 10/7, 5–7pm ET, Kendall/MIT Open Space (between the Kendall Square T stop and 292 Main St.): The Public Library Innovation Exchange (PLIX) and the Cambridge Library present Sonic Seasoning, a creative learning activity that explores how altering the sound of eating changes our experience of food to encourage healthier food choices.
  • 10/8, 1pm ET, MIT Museum (314 Main St.): Enjoy a live performance of Tapis Magique, a project led by Irmandy Wicaksono (Responsive Environments), with collaborators Don Derek Haddad (Responsive Environments) and dancer Loni Landon, at the Lee Family Exchange stage on 10/8.
  • 10/9, 12-4pm ET, Kendall/MIT Open Space
    Join Nataliya Kos'myna (Fluid Interfaces) in the Robot Petting Zoo and learn to control a robot using your brain; the Personal Robots group will also be there with interactive activities to help participants learn more about AI, in How to Train Your Robot!
