Brain, Body + Breath is a multisensory musical experience created by composer and innovator Tod Machover especially for the opening of the new MIT Museum.

Featuring three Machover world premieres, the concert explores the ways that music affects our bodies and minds while we perform, create, or listen to sound. The pieces being presented are VocaGammified for voice, strings, and Gamma-frequency electronics (2021); Breathing Together for flute solo, 10 instruments and electronics (2022); and Brain Opera 2.0 for 10 instruments and electronics (2022), which is a radical revisiting and updating of the music from Machover’s classic Brain Opera.

The three compositions will be performed by an exceptional ensemble of young New York-based musicians led by violinist Marina Kifferstein, and will include legendary soprano and long-time Machover collaborator Karol Bennett in VocaGammified, plus Opera of the Future grad student Jess Shand performing the solo flute part in Breathing Together. The music will be accompanied by video by Peter Torpey (MAS PhD ‘14), with sound design by Ben Bloomberg (MAS PhD ‘20) and Nikhil Singh (current MAS PhD student). Other members of the Opera of the Future group will assist and Tod Machover will conduct.

Seating is limited. Advance purchase through the link below is strongly recommended.
