Om Gokhale

Om Gokhale is a researcher and designer at the MIT Media Lab’s Center for Constructive Communication. He studies how humans interact with technology, and how these interactions influence civic life, political polarization, and community dialogue. His recent research focuses on creating tools and spaces that encourage sincerity and empathy among young people. 

Outside of the lab, Om has spent the last decade as a founding designer and consultant for emerging technology companies around the world. Projects include computer vision models to help neurosurgeons detect strokes, text-to-3D world interfaces at Fortnite, and multi-agent orchestration interfaces at IBM.

Om holds a B.A. from Middlebury College in Humane Design, where he was granted the status of "Independent Scholar" to create a custom major studying ethical human-computer interaction.

He has presented his research at the Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI) and the MIT Museum, and has received an international Red Dot Award for Interface Design.

In his free time, he leads tours at the Harvard Museum of Natural History (ask him about horseshoe crabs!), reads short fiction, and finds frequent excuses to drive up to coastal Maine with his fiancé.
