The Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Conference (CVPR) is a preeminent computer vision event for new research in support of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), augmented, virtual, and mixed reality (AR/VR/MR), deep learning, and more. Sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society (CS) and the Computer Vision Foundation (CVF), CVPR focuses on advances in all areas of computer vision and pattern recognition and the fields and industries they impact. Attended by more than 10,000 scientists and engineers each year, CVPR provides a wide range of opportunities for networking, recruiting, inspiration, and motivation.

Two Media Lab research projects are being presented as part of this conference this year:

"Organs without Bodies" + "Tales of the Hair" at the inaugural CVPR AI Art Gallery

Two Media Lab researchers have been invited to the first ever AI Art Gallery at CVPR 2024. Explore all the artworks online via the CVPR AI Art Gallery

  • Fluid Interfaces researcher Valdemar Danry presented his work “Organs without Bodies." He was also invited to participate in a panel on AI art.
  • Opera of the Future researcher Manaswi Mishra, alongside co-creators, exhibited "Tales of the Hair" at CVPR's AI Art Gallery.

PlatoNeRF: 3D Reconstruction in Plato's Cave via Single-View Two-Bounce Lidar

This work from the Camera Culture group, being presented at CVPR this year, demonstrates a system that leverages shadows to model 3D scenes, including objects blocked from view. This technique could lead to safer autonomous vehicles, more efficient AR/VR headsets, or faster warehouse robots.
