Ramesh Raskar discusses Safe Paths

Safe Paths is a privacy-first application that uses GPS and bluetooth for digital contact tracing. It logs a user’s personal trails, and these can be compared locally to a public health department’s anonymized trails of infected individuals, alerting a user if they may have been exposed to the virus. Safe Places is a corresponding web tool for health and government officials that displays hot spots of potential exposure using aggregated and encrypted trails. In this talk, Ramesh Raskar details these tools and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of different contact tracing methods. He highlights privacy and inclusion and suggests future goals of the project to provide governments and individuals with features for symptom tracking, quarantine verification, and immunity.
