Ramesh Raskar gives an update on his nonprofit’s progression in developing the Safe Paths mobile app and Safe Places web tool, which provide digital contact tracing that offers both proximity and context. As governments, schools and businesses around the world are in various stages of shifting towards reopening society, the Safe Paths alliance is working on solutions that will ease this transition. Tools like proximity warnings and schedule staggering could help businesses ease back into in-house operations, and hotspot prediction and quarantine verification could help public health officials monitor the spread of infection. Ramesh also suggests the most important factors for public health entities to consider in IT decision-making. Ultimately, the team hopes to target public health, restart the economy, and create a resilient society with equitable, privacy-first tools.
