iCenters : The Design of a Methodology to Encourage a New Generation of Computer Scientists, Inventors, and Innovators

iCenters: We work with a select group of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to encourage and support the development of iCenters (Innovation Centers). The model for the iCenters is greatly influenced by the South End Technology Center (SETC). SETC was the first community located Maker Space to spin out of the Media Lab’s Bits and Atoms Lab. It is helmed by MIT Professor Emeritus Mel King. iCenters emphasize experiential learning by making and doing. By learning to code and learning to make and do with fabrication tools, we capture and retain interest in technology and facilitate closure of the Technology gap.
