We’re creating a new global research network to understand how cryptocurrencies and digital currencies help people financially flourish—and where they might cause harm? This work cannot be done effectively from any one place alone; it depends on joint effort with regional collaborators who have deep community insight, to identify what is actually being used, what works, what doesn’t, and why.

Network Goals:

  • Enhance academic cryptocurrency offerings and attract new talent
  • Build a global network of open source research and development
  • Attract academics, practitioners, and a broader network of allies (those who can bridge academic research and real-world impact)

MAS.S62 Cryptocurrency Design and Engineering, a course offered to MIT students in collaboration with the University of Brasilia, in Fall 2025, which features joint student assignments, will be available on MIT OpenCourseWare. Faculty at more than 16 universities are auditing the course in hopes of teaching it at their home institutions in 2026.
