Mitchel Resnick, LEGO Papert Professor of Learning Research and head of the Lifelong Kindergarten group, has received the 2025 SIGCSE Award for Outstanding Contribution to Computer Science Education.

On LinkedIn, Resnick shared his thoughts on receiving this award:

"I’m so honored to be receiving this award. But I really feel that the award shouldn’t be going just to me, since all of my projects over the years have been collaborations.

Most notably, none of these projects would have been possible without the extraordinary contributions by students and staff in our Lifelong Kindergarten research group at the MIT Media Lab. I want to give special thanks to Natalie Rusk, my long-time collaborator, who has played a major role in all of our group’s projects.

As a group, I think we’ve been successful since we’ve always kept our focus on providing young people with opportunities to develop as creative, curious, caring, and collaborative learners. And we’ve succeeded in doing that because all of the students and staff in the group have, themselves, been creative, curious, caring, and collaborative learners.

So I’m honored to share this award with all of them."

Beginning in 1981, this award honors an individual or group in recognition of a significant contribution to computer science education. These contributions have demonstrated a long lasting impact on, and made a significant difference in, computing education.
