Ikra Shuvo, a PhD student at the Media Lab, and his colleagues have won the Best Research Poster Award at the Mechanical Engineering Research Exhibition (MERE) for their project Birdwatch — a portable, AI-powered acoustic system that leverages machine learning to identify diverse drone threats in contested environments where traditional radar detection falls short. Birdwatch aims to provide soldiers with critical early warning capabilities against emerging drone threats on the battlefield.
