Ikra Iftekhar Shuvo

Ikra Iftekhar Shuvo is a PhD researcher at MIT's Department of Mechanical Engineering and Media Lab. His Master's thesis at MIT centered on the design and micro-fabrication of conformable, flexible sensors and piezoelectric ultrasound devices that mold to the soft, moving surfaces of the human body, with a focus on wearable ultrasound imaging for the early detection of cancerous biomarkers in soft tissue. His PhD work spans ultrasound-assisted moisture transport from hydrogels, flexible and wearable electronic textiles, and the integration of soft materials with sensors and electronics to diagnose motor dysfunction in patients with limited mobility.

Ikra’s work on ultrasonically coupled moisture-harvesting hydrogels received a Best Poster award at the Materials Research Society (MRS) meeting and has been featured by MIT News and CNN News. He is also a recipient of the Harold Horowitz (1951) Student Research Grant at MIT and the NIH i-TREP award for biomedical entrepreneurship. His research in ultrasound and flexible electronics appears in journals including Nature Communications, Nature Reviews Clean Technology, Advanced Intelligent Systems, Science Advances, Nature Electronics, and Flexible and Printed Electronics.
