A group of Media Lab community members traveled to Japan in late January 2025 to host a series of presentations for current and prospective member companies, as well as MIT alumni. They visited the MuRata research and production facilities, as well as the Global Business Hub Tokyo, where they introduced the Media Lab, their research, and member collaborations:
- Patrick Chwalek (Responsive Environments) and Marie Kuronaga (visiting scientist from Kioxia Corporation) presented their collaborations about innovative ecological monitoring tools designed to enhance biodiversity conservation through real-time wildlife tracking.
- Cedric Honnet (Responsive Environments) showcased FiberCircuits, a technology embedding miniature flexible PCBs, microcontrollers, and sensors directly into textile fibers—pushing the boundaries of wearable electronics.
- Jason Hou (Conformable Decoders) introduced microfabricated interfaces for brain stimulation and cancer treatment, demonstrating biocompatible devices for neuromodulation and advanced therapies.
- Mirei Rioux (External Relations) provided a comprehensive overview of the Media Lab’s vision, interdisciplinary approach, and commitment to fostering innovation through industry-academia collaborations.
The events sparked exciting discussions on real-world applications and future industry partnerships. Thank you to the hosts and sponsors for a successful session!
