- Responsive Environments
Patrick Chwalek is a PhD student in the Responsive Environments group. His research interests include empathetic systems, semi-automated interventions, environmental sensing, and prototype design.
Before joining the MIT Media Lab in 2018, Patrick worked at MIT Lincoln Laboratory for three years, focusing on wearable embedded systems for physiological monitoring, remote surveillance systems, and machine learning algorithms for radar target classification. He has worked at a startup in the Bay Area where he architected, built, and tested a wildfire detection system. He has also spent a summer with the National Geographic Exploration Technology Lab, building technology for their Explorers to use in the field.
He completed his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and a master's degree in computer science at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
