Laura Chicos

Former Research Assistant
  • Biomechatronics

Laura is originally from Chicago, IL and she majored in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Robotics from Johns Hopkins University. After graduating in May 2019, she went on to work as an associate electrical engineer at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab for a year and half afterwards. There, she worked on brain-computer interface research and hardware development to support software-defined radio projects.

In the Biomechatronics lab, she is part of the neural interfaces group, specifically looking at nerve regeneration through a micro-channel array electrode. The goal of this project is to achieve finer motor control, as well as bi-directional electrode communication in prosthetics.

Outside of work, she enjoys playing tennis and soccer, painting, reading, dancing, hiking, writing postcards and traveling.
