Chikara Inamura

Former Computational Designer and Structural Engineer

Chikara Inamura is a research assistant at the Mediated Matter resarch group. A Master’s candidate, he is a lead researcher for the group’s glass project. Chikara is an architect and a structural engineer with over 10 years of experience in practice at prestigious design firms including Zaha Hadid Architects in London and Sasaki and Partners in Tokyo.

As a project architect at Zaha Hadid Architects, Chikara was one of the firm’s lead designer in charge of a wide range of award winning projects including Vitra Mesa, Dubai Financial Market, and the firm’s largest construction project at the time, 400,000 sqm complex, Beijing Galaxy Soho. In parallel, he served as the firm’s construction and automation specialist and developed extensive list of optimization and automation workflows. He has conducted a series of firm wide workshops and trainings for parametric design, building information modeling, and automation.

As a structural engineer at Sasaki and Partners, he has collaborated with Toyo Ito Architects for their La Montre Hermès Showroom in Basel, and Sejima and Nishizawa of SANAA for their Bocconi University campus in Milan. He was an apprentice of Prof. Mutsuro Sasaki and was in charge of the firm’s recent projects including the Church of Ikuta and Kotohira Bridge.
