A number of the speakers taking the stage at this year's South by Southwest (SXSW) conference in Austin, Texas will be members of the Media Lab community—below are some details on the people and projects scheduled to participate.
Sunday, March 10
- SXSW Pitch: Future of Work @ 4:00pm CT: Media Lab spinoff ProjectUs.ai is among the five finalists recognized in changing the future of work.
Monday, March 11
- SXSW Pitch: Meet the Finalists @ 10:30am CT: Connect with over 70 startups from SXSW Pitch; Media Lab spinoff ProjectUs.ai will be in attendance.
SXSW Innovation Awards @ 6:00pm CT
- Chelsi Cocking (Future Sketches): Illuminate has been nominated in the Student Innovation category.
- Irmandy Wicaksono (Responsive Environments): The Living Knitwork Pavilion has been nominated in the What the Future category. The project team will also be unveiling KnitworkVR: an immersive “Living Knitwork in Burning Man” virtual experience sonified and animated by real-time sensor data.
Algorave at SXSW 2024 @ 7:00pm CT
- Char Stiles (Future Sketches) joins an eclectic lineup of members of the Algorave scene, where she will debut new algorithmic performance tools as a part of her research at the Media Lab.
Tuesday, March 12
- Revolutionizing Astrophysics with AI @ 11:30am CT: Panel discussion on transformative impact that AI is having in astrophysics. Speakers include Media Lab alum Juliana Cherston (Responsive Environments).
Wednesday, March 13
- Keynote: A Conversation with Dr. Joy Buolamwini @ 1:00pm CT: Media Lab alum Dr. Joy Buolamwini (Civic Media) is the founder of the Algorithmic Justice League, an AI bias expert, and an artist. She will be signing copies of her book, Unmasking AI: My Mission to Protect What Is Human in a World of Machines following this keynote.
