Description

High-range resolution Time-of-Flight Image Sensors TOF cameras such as Kinect have been widely used for object and gesture recognition. However conventional TOF range imagers have had only range resolution of a few millimeters at best, which is very poor for measuring application such as 3D scanning system. For the mesuring 3D scanning system, we have been developing TOF range imagers with submillimeter or higher range resolution. The first prototype have achieved 0.25mm range resolution, which corresponds to 1.67ps time resolution. The key technologies in the imager are: (1) an indirect TOF measurement technique using impulse photocurrent response, (2) High-speed lock-in pixel based on lateral electric field modulator, and (3) column-parallel skew calibration circuits. In this talk, our high range resolution TOF imagers and their latest results are briefly introduced.
