Scalable Multicasting

Multicasting is one way to converge the delivery of broadcast video with the Internet. Last year, we built a protocol that used every receiver as a shared memory to allow personal music from an arbitrarily large set of channels. This year, we are adding scalable video to the multicast system to allow graceful degradation and variable resolution viewing. With SMD, on-demand delivery and time-shifting become not only feasible, but practical.
