OPAL preserves privacy using the following principles:

  1. Keeps data encrypted at all times
  2. Allows only vetted algorithms
  3. Moves the algorithm to the data (not vice versa)
  4. Aggregates blinded data from distributed repositories 
  5. Executes on decentralized infrastructure
  6. Returns “safe answers” 

OPAL has preserved privacy in three health use cases: 

  1. Clinical Trials
  2. Urgent Care
  3. Clinical Intervention
