Media Lab PhD students Daniella DiPaola, Pedro Reynolds-Cuéllar, and Hope Schroeder are among this year's recipients of the Gary Mardsen Travel Awards to attend the ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI). The Gary Marsden Travel Awards (GMTA) supports SIGCHI members who are students, early career researchers, or those experiencing financial hardship in attending SIGCHI conferences.

Pedro Reynolds-Cuéllar is a PhD student in the Space Enabled research group whose work is focused on the development of more sustainable and just technologies. For CHI '23, he will be presenting research with Latin American collaborators on building bridges between human–computer interaction research in Latin America and the Global North.

Hope Schroeder is a PhD student in the MIT Center for Constructive Communication. Her research focusing on location -based AR for social justice purposes is to be presented at CHI'23 with collaborators from both Stanford University and Columbia University; the work has also received the single Best Case Study award at CHI'23.

Daniella DiPaola is a PhD student in the Personal Robots group. Her research interests include understanding the social-emotional, ethical, and legal implications of AI and robots, particularly in the lives of children. She is a co-organizer of the workshop "AI Literacy: Finding Common Threads between Education, Design, Policy, and Explainability" at CHI '23.
