Memoro and App Inventor Foundation were named as honorable mentions in the 2024 Fast Company's World Changing Ideas list.

Memoro, a research project by Wazeer Zulfikar and Samantha Chan of the Fluid Interfaces research group, was selected in the Students category. This category honors projects in any category that are designed to make a difference, created by undergraduate or graduate students.

App Inventor Foundation was selected as part of the AI Forward Alliance in the Education category. Founded by Hal Abelson, a professor in MIT CSAIL, co-director of MIT RAISE, and longtime friend of the Media Lab, App Inventor is a visual programming language that helps users of all ages make fully functional mobile phone apps. This category honors projects or tools that improve the quality of education or make learning more equitable.

Fast Company’s annual World Changing Ideas Awards honor the businesses and organizations that are developing creative solutions to the most pressing issues of our time. More than 1,300 applications were submitted to the 2024 World Changing Ideas Awards. A team of staff editors and writers, alongside trusted freelancers, assessed each application based on our criteria of impact, design, scalability, and ingenuity.
