Media Lab alums among honorees for Mozilla's Rise 25 Awards

Two Media Lab alums, Rob Morris (Affective Computing) and J. Nathan Matias (Civic Media), are among 25 honorees for Mozilla's Rise 25 awards. Honorees across five categories in innovation—artists, activists, creators, builders, and advocates—will be invited to attend the Rise 25 Awards, which will be held during Mozilla’s Reclaim the Internet, a five day-long event in Berlin, Germany that kicks off Friday, Oct. 13, 2023.

The awards will be livestreamed on Mozilla’s YouTube channel on Oct. 13 beginning at 8:30pm CET/2:30pm ET. 

Morris and Matias were selected in the following categories:

Builders

Rob Morris (USA) is the CEO of Koko, which provides mental health support to more than 2 million young people online.

Advocates

Dr. J. Nathan Matias (USA) leads the Citizens and Technology Lab at Cornell University and champions independent technology research.
