On May 19, 2023, Professor Dava Newman—director of the MIT Media Lab and former director of the MIT Portugal Program—received a Doctor Honoris Causa (honorary doctorate degree) in Engineering from Universidade Minho in Portugal. Businessman José Ramos was also given an honorary doctorate degree during the event.
