The City Science Lab @ Guadalajara was established in 2019 via a cooperation agreement between the University of Guadalajara and the City Science group at the MIT Media Lab. In the years following teams worked on various research and events focusing on innovation in informality, data-enabled decision making, and resilient communities. In December of 2023 the team announced their latest milestone - the opening of their brick and mortar laboratory, located on the first floor of the Museum of Environmental Science in the University Cultural Center. The lab was inaugurated in an opening ceremony which was attended by Ricardo Villanueva- the President of UdeG, Héctor Raúl Solís Gadea- the Vice Rector of UdeG, Leticia Leal- the Dean of CU Tlajomulco, and Patricia Martinez Barba- the General Director of the AMG Development Planning and Management Institute. Eduardo Santana, the Director of the Museum of Environmental Sciences, and Mayra Gamboa, the Director of the City Science Lab, gave opening remarks to welcome guests and celebrate this landmark achievement. Kent Larson was also in attendance to recognize the laboratory as part of the City Science Network and also to share the ongoing research collaboration between the two institutes.

After opening remarks, leadership and guests were welcomed into the Lab where researchers shared new work and research including a CityScope platform of the University Cultural Center, air quality sensors, and humidity sensors for agricultural automation to name a few.
