Title TBD (Topic: Pharmamusicology)

Date: July 16, 2025 | 3-4 pm | Presented by: Kimy Lecamwasam

Abstract: Amid a growing global mental health crisis and the urgent need for cost-effective, scalable interventions, music has emerged as a powerful tool for modulating emotion and stress with the potential for broad cultural and community impact. In response to this need, Kimy's research focus has evolved to center on the development of emotionally intelligent AI music systems that are informed by ethics, culture, and physiology. As an essential first step, Kimy's work to date has focused on evaluating the potential of human-composed, human-performed music to positively impact mental and physical health through collaboration with cultural institutions, including Carnegie Hall, as well as evaluations of the emotional resonance of AI-generated music as compared to human-composed. This work offers foundational insights into how listeners perceive emotional authenticity in music across human and AI-generated contexts, as companion interventions to traditional therapeutics and psychotherapy.
