- Fluid Interfaces
Tomás was a MAS graduate student in the Fluid Interfaces group. He is passionate about developing assistive technologies, but more generally, he wants to design the human of the future (he wants to be a cyborg!)—to create new and extend existing human sensory and cognitive abilities in order to enhance human performance. For this, he is developing new output devices to increase the bandwidth from computers to humans. Using these augmentative devices, he hopes to learn how the brain structurally and functionally reorganizes given new synthetic senses and cognitive prostheses. He is interested in how neural plasticity can be exploited, how humans learn and encode information, how the somatosensory system works, and the factors affecting perception. He holds a double major in Computer Science and Cognitive Science from UC Berkeley.
