Michael Wing Wong

Graduate Student
  • MIT Center for Constructive Communication

Michael's passion lies in making connections between our social and technical worlds to ensure our future society is sustainable - in every sense of the word.

Michael is an MSc student at MIT's Center for Constructive Communication/Media Lab where he's designing, building, and assessing responsible tech-enhanced tools that can promote constructive discourse, particularly with respect to deliberative democracy and citizen assemblies.

Beyond this, Michael was previously a News Applications Developer at Canada's non-profit Investigative Journalism Foundation, where he helped build the IJF's technical backend, scraping and cleaning lobbying, political donations, and charity financials data from various levels of government to present—in accessible formats—to the general public.

Academically, he was a Clarendon Scholar and Social Data Science Masters student at the University of Oxford's Oxford Internet Institute, using machine learning and statistics to investigate how working from home might affect residential energy consumption in the UK. His bachelors is from the University of Toronto Scarborough, with an honours BSc in the dual disciplines of Astrophysics and Public Policy.
