Allegra Libonati

Former Director's Fellow

Allegra Libonati is a freelance director for theater and opera. She worked the past nine years with the American Repertory Theater as a resident director.  Her work comes in many shapes and sizes–from Shakespeare to musicals to family theater to opera to immersive events.  Credits include: Hair,  South Pacific, Hairspray, The Snow Queen, The Light Princess, an upcoming production of Peter PanIn the Body of the World, The Rakes Progress, Falstaff, Romeo and Juliet, and The Tempest. Her latest Shakespeare production, Romeo and Juliet, played for up to 8,000 attendees per night on the Boston Common, and her new, immersive Peter Pan retelling, combining acrobatics, circus, puppetry, dance, martial arts, and physical theatre, toured China in 2017. Allegra has taught varying theater curricula at Harvard University, MIT, Wayne State University, Carnegie Mellon, UNLV, and Westfield State University. She is a graduate of Tisch School of the Arts, NYU (BFA), and Carnegie Mellon University (MFA).
