During the Tell Me More: Living in Space! event, Media Lab director Dava Newman will talk about her groundbreaking spacesuit, the BioSuit™, as part of the Smithsonian’s celebration of women and girls in STEM, Women’s Futures Month

The FUTURES exhibition hosted at the Smithsonian's Arts + Industries Building will feature the BioSuit™ from March 5–27, as part of this celebration.

In 2019, an all-women spacewalk was canceled because NASA’s space suits were originally created to only fit male bodies and therefore, did not fit the women. The BioSuit™ was designed to give astronauts of all sizes the ability to travel into space, and most importantly was developed by a woman. The Tell Me More event invites participants to learn about what it takes to improve and develop spacesuits for all astronauts, as a new future is imagined where anyone can travel into space.

Women’s Futures Month at the Smithsonian also includes #IfThenSheCan—The Exhibit, a collection of 120 3D-printed statues of women in STEM. On display in Smithsonian gardens and in and around select Smithsonian museums from March 5–27, the exhibit is the largest collection of statues of women ever assembled together, and represents a wide range of innovators and role models from a variety of fields, including former Labber Katy Croff Bell.
