For the 2022 Spring Meeting, held April 12–13, we opened the Lab to both members and special guests, welcoming close to 400 in-person attendees and hundreds of virtual guests for our first large-scale, in-person meeting since 2019. The energy, enthusiasm, and warmth was palpable—it was evident that we, together with our members and prospective collaborators, were incredibly excited to gather again at the Media Lab!

Thank you to everyone—staff, students, and faculty—for their hard work and flexibility in enabling this live/virtual meeting to showcase the magic of the Media Lab.

Let the success of our Media Lab Spring Meeting and our renewed personal connections, internally and externally, shine a bright light on our thriving future, together, for each other and the Media Lab!
—Dava Newman, Director, MIT Media Lab

Virtual Beings and Being Virtual | AI-Generated Characters for Positive Applications

On Thursday, April 14, the Fluid Interfaces research group and member company NTT DATA will host a workshop, Virtual Beings and Being Virtual: AI-Generated Characters for Positive Applications. The all-day workshop will feature talks by experts from academia and industry on the technologies, applications and ethics of AI-based digital characters. We are thrilled to have Greg Daniels as a special guest speaker; he is the award-winning screenwriter, producer, and director of the TV series Upload and a contributor to The Simpsons, The Office, and Space Force. The talks will be livestreamed, and there is also limited onsite attendance capacity. If you are interested in attending in person, please submit your information on the workshop's webpage, and we will confirm whether we can accommodate you in person (availability is determined on a first-come, first-served basis).
