Mercedes Benz has been working closely with academia to generate innovative ideas in the fields of technology, business, research, sustainability, finance and marketing. With this in mind, Ryan McCarthy and Phil Tinn from the MIT Media Lab collaborated with Dr. Benjamin Bhattacharya-Ghosh from Mercedes Benz on an event to bring together students from multiple institutions and Mercedes Benz leadership to identify the latest trends and brainstorm the future of mobility. 

The event, called the Mercedes-Benz Student Experience Day, was the biggest event of its kind, including  an exclusive line-up of speakers and panelists, expert booths, demos, panel discussions, and networking opportunities. Key themes for the event included information technology, research and development, design, business and innovation. The event received additional support from organizations like MIT, the Consul General of Germany of New England, Harvard, Yale, and Purdue to name a few.  

More than 400 students attended the event on October 27, 2019. The students, who were from over 20 top US universities, were offered a glimpse into the expertise and innovation at Mercedes Benz and in turn shared their research and experience, creating a dialog to spark new ideas in the future of mobility.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. and STUTTGART, Germany, Oct. 28, 2019
-- Design, artificial intelligence and the future of mobility: More than 400 people attended the "Mercedes-Benz Student Experience Day" on Sunday, 27 October 2019, at which students gained deep insights into the world of Daimler and Mercedes-Benz. The event was hosted by Mercedes-Benz and held at the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, MA. The event is aimed at students of the universities in the surrounding area including MIT, Harvard and Yale.

"Cooperation with the top universities in the world is of great importance for us as an innovation area," explains Susanne Hahn, Head of the Lab 1886 Global: "On the one hand, we work together with the faculties to scientifically work on our projects. On the other hand, we have the opportunity to inspire the specialists of tomorrow for our Lab1886 Ecosystem. "

How does automated driving work? When will we be able to beat traffic jams by air taxi? Why is artificial intelligence needed in developing and producing vehicles today? How will the vehicle of tomorrow be designed? These are just some of the questions which were aired directly with the students in panel discussions in the course of the "Student Experience Day".

The nine speakers at the event included Susanne Hahn, Director of Lab1886, Sabine Scheunert, Vice President of Digital & IT Marketing/Sales Mercedes Benz Cars, and Dr Philipp Skogstad, CEO Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America (MBRDNA).
