Two Screenings at the MIT Media Lab share Black Stories and Celebrate Black Creators with the Boston Film Festival

On September 23 and 24, the MIT Media Lab will screen two new works in association with the 39th Boston Film Festival. The events are free and open to the public. Follow the link at the button below to RSVP.

This event at the MIT Media Lab is hosted by Danielle WoodMIT Media Lab Assistant Professor of Media Arts and SciencesMIT Assistant Professor of Aeronautics and AstronauticsMIT Faculty Lead for Major in African and African Diaspora Studies, and Director of the Space Enabled research group. The event is co-sponsored by the Media Lab, MIT Libraries, MIT History Department, and the MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning. After each screening, Prof. Wood will host a dialogue and audience Q+A with artists from the show. Creator Nkechi Okoro Carroll and Director DeMane Davis speak with Prof. Wood about "Found" on September 23; while Director and Photographer Douglas Segars reflects on "Cruzan Cowboys" on September 24.

Found

On September 23 at 7pm ET in the Media Lab's Bartos Theater, come watch the pilot episode of "Found," a new television show that will premier on NBC this fall. As highlighted by the production team, "In any given year, more than 600,000 people are reported missing in the US. More than half that number are people of color that the country seems to forget about. A public relations specialist, who was once herself one of those forgotten ones, and her crisis management team now make sure there is always someone looking out for the forgotten missing people. " Learn about the efforts to improve protection of Black and Brown youth who are at risk, missing or kidnapped. (Location, 20 Ames Street, MIT Building E15, Lower Level, Bartos Theater)

Cruzan Cowboys

On September 24 at 2pm ET in the Media Lab's E14 6th Floor, come view a photo exhibit and screening of "Cruzan Cowboys," a new short documentary directed by Douglas Segars, which recently premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The short documentary chronicles the horse jockey community in Saint Croix, US Virgin Islands—through the perspective of a young aspiring jockey, native to the island. The story brings a window into the lives of a community within a US territory who seek to protect their traditions and passions while enabling future careers for the next generation. (Location, 75 Amherst Street, MIT Building E14, 6th Floor)
