Professor Kevin Esvelt, director of the Sculpting Evolution research group, testified before the US Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs' on Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Spending Oversight (ETSO) in a hearing titled "Revisiting Gain of Function Research: What the Pandemic Taught Us and Where Do We Go From Here." 

Professor Esvelt's testimony, titled "Credible pandemic virus identification will trigger the immediate proliferation of agents as lethal as nuclear devices," focused on the risks of identifying pandemic-capable viruses.
