Join the Future Sketches group on Fridays from 12 – 1pm ET for the Lunch Lectures Spring 2023 edition about Generative AI and artistic practice.

The Future Sketches group is pleased to announce a series of public talks focused on artists working with and thinking about generative AI. The use of generative AI tools has advanced exponentially over the last year and saturated public consciousness. Every day, there’s a new project or approach published. How should visual artists engage with this? What are the ethical implications of these tools? What are holistic means of co-creation as well as pitfalls we should be avoiding? For this series, we’ll be hearing from four artists and designers who have been working through these questions and have essential perspectives on the use and implications of these tools.

Held weekly online (starting February 17, 2023) from 12–1pm ET. Passcode: 141592

Sofia Crespo is an artist working with an interest in biology-inspired technologies. One of her main focuses is the way organic life uses artificial mechanisms to simulate itself and evolve, this implying the idea that technologies are a biased product of the organic life that created them and not a completely separated object.  Her work brings into question the potential of AI in artistic practice and its ability to reshape our understandings of creativity. she is also hugely concerned with the dynamic change in the role of the artists working with machine learning techniques. She’s the co-founder of Entangled Others Studio, together with artist Feileacan McCormick. Together, they explore moving further into an entanglement with the more-than-human world. entangledothers.studio

Ari Melenciano's art and research practice explores computational anthropology, societal subconscious intellect, the ethnographical morphing of artistic expression across diasporas, speculative design, the formation and embodiment of mythology and rituals, and the materialization of omni-scoped research in the form of quasi-pseudosciences. She currently teaches courses on emerging technologies like A.I., art, and design at New York University and Parsons/ The New School. She is also the founder of Afrotectopia, a cultural institution that is imagining, researching, and building at the nexus of new media art, design, science, and technology through a Black and Afrocentric lens. She guest lectures at universities around the world.   ariciano.tv
