12:00pm — 1:00pm ET

In this virtual talk and Q+A, Gordan Stojović, an early antiwar organizer, refugee worker, co-founder of the first Montenegrin news agency, and former ambassador to the Argentine Republic, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay, will share his experiences working at the intersection of media, diplomacy, and diasporic populations from the 90's to present day.

Migrations are now archived and covered by our permanent media cycles. They are recorded, discussed, used as a political tool, analyzed, commented on, and shared. From the Middle East to the Balkans and South and Central America, migrations are having a profound and lasting impact on politics and discourse alike. We will take a look at the media and anti-regime digital activism at the end of last century to the present day.

Once upon a time, the lives of journalists, refugees, and politicians depended on hiding their identities.

What is different in the status and perception of refugees? What does a diaspora mean today? What if we had to be authorized by Facebook in the 90's to use their platform politically? Once upon a time, the lives of journalists, refugees, and politicians depended on hiding their identities. What can we do as digital activists, refugee workers, or career diplomats today?

Light lunch will be provided for guests, first come, first serve.
