Fighting 21st Century Hate: A 360 view with Adam Neufeld, VP of Innovation and Strategy, ADL

Monday
October 29, 2018
4:00pm — 5:30pm ET

In the new arena of Twitter doxxing and other emerging tools, hate has learned to travel different pathways. Likewise, the effort to fight hate has been developing new methods to respond when the battle has one foot in the court room and one in the message boards.

The Media Lab welcomes Adam Neufeld, vice president of innovation and strategy of the ADL, an organization founded in 1913.

Adam Neufeld is the Vice President of Innovation & Strategy at ADL. In that role, he oversees the organization’s cyberhate work, and works to transform the 105-year-old organization to meet new trends in bias and extremism. Adam joined ADL in early 2018 after serving as the Deputy Administrator of the General Services Administration. He helped create an innovative new group called 18F that brought in over 100 coders and designers to work on the government’s most difficult technology issues in a modern, user-centered way. He also scaled an office of behavioral scientists and academics to evaluate government programs and design interventions. He worked at several other agencies, including as a lawyer. In addition, he was a consultant at McKinsey & Co., where he served government and nonprofit clients.

Adam has a B.S. in Neuroscience from Brown University, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

He will speak with us about the development of this work and the strategies of a century-old organization responding to hate on the ground and in the virtual landscape unfolding before us.
