Christopher Maurer, of redhouse studio, speaks to the Space Exploration initiative about novel approaches for embedding mycelium (the vegetative part of fungi, with masses of branching, thread-like hyphae) in agricultural waste to make robust building material. redhouse is working with senior researchers at NASA to develop off-planet applications for this new bio-material to grow structures at destination, limiting up-mass and in situ resource requirements.
