Advancing Wellbeing Seminar Series: BJ Fogg, Part II

Thursday
February 19, 2015

Location

MIT Media Lab, E14-633

Description

Over the last three years, Dr. BJ Fogg has used email to coach over 30,000 people in a new method of habit formation. This was not his intent at the start. However, as people signed up for his 5-day course each week, he just kept going, day after day, even while on vacation.

From his personal interactions with so many people, he saw patterns in people's struggles to improve their lives. Along the way he revised his coaching to help people focus on small changes, to better recognize and celebrate their successes, and to trust a process of habit formation that does not rely on willpower.
Dr. Fogg's research shows that as people feel successful in making a change—even something very small—they naturally start to change other behaviors.
