The City Science team hosted students from 826 Boston's STEM Inspired Writing Camp Our City is Alive for a one-day workshop. The students toured the Media Lab and participated in a design thinking activity with MIT mentors to explore the question: What would you do to make your community more livable? To answer the question, mentors and students worked together to make maps of each student's community that included places of interest. The students then added new elements that would benefit their community. At the end of the workshop the students shared their ideas to one another and with our director, Kent Larson.

About Our City is Alive:

"On field trips around Boston, students take detailed observations of people, plants, and animals and use them to imagine a city of the future. Young explorers engage in scientific and creative writing, collecting field notes and writing short stories and poems based on their findings. The innovators then showcase their city of the future at the 826 Boston World’s Fair!"

About 826 Boston:

826 Boston is a nonprofit youth writing and publishing organization that empowers traditionally underserved students ages 6-18 to find their voices, tell their stories, and gain communication skills to succeed in school and in life.
