As generative AI tools become increasingly present in classrooms, schools face difficult questions about how to guide their use. This project reimagines technology policy in K-12 schools, shifting from rigid, rule-based approaches to more flexible ones grounded in shared values.

We have created two, hands-on programs to work toward values-driven AI guidance and usage:

A student-led AI after school club that gives young people agency in shaping the future of technology in their schools. Over 12 weeks, students dive into AI concepts, learn how to engage stakeholders, and co-create policies that reflect the needs and priorities of their peers. By the end, they walk away with something powerful: a student-written AI policy ready to bring to school leaders.

A values-based workshop for district leaders and stakeholders, designed to spark meaningful conversations about AI and what matters most in their communities. Participants learn about real-world examples of how AI is currently used in schools, reflect on their district's core values, and then collaborate to design AI guidance aligned with those values.
