Prof. Deblina Sarkar receives prestigious NSF CAREER Award

Jimmy Day

Prof. Deblina Sarkar has been awarded the prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award. Professor Sarkar’s Nano-Cybernetic Biotrek group conducts interdisciplinary research that combines engineering, applied physics, and biology to create groundbreaking technologies for nanoelectronic devices and establish unique human and nano-machine symbiosis for biomedical applications. It is a deep honor for Prof. Sarkar’s work in the lab and classroom to be recognized by the NSF with the Career Award.

National Science Foundation's Career Awards are the most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. Activities pursued by early-career faculty should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research.

This NSF CAREER Award will support Prof. Sarkar’s work in building a new paradigm for brain implants with high potential for treating intractable brain diseases. Prof. Sarkar’s future is bright as she seeks to continually inspire other young researchers to push the boundaries of science to provide solutions to humanity’s most troubling diseases and to create a sustainable world.
