2018 GSC Graduate Teaching Award

Neil Gaikwad, a PhD student at the Media Lab, has received the GSC Graduate Teaching Award, an Institute Award presented annually to one MIT professor or teaching assistant from each school for excellence in teaching a graduate-level course.

Neil researches human-centered AI and public policy for sustainable systems.   He develops systems that combine human-and-artificial intelligence to study the underlying nature and impact of these processes on sustainability, analyzing socioeconomic and remote sensing satellite data. Drawing upon this understanding, his work informs designs of socio-technical systems and equitable policies for resiliency planning.

Neil was the teaching assistant as well as the R Programming and Reproducible Research Lab Instructor for the MAS S61 Quantitative (Computational) Social Science Research Methods class. His commitment to achievement of students as well as excellence in teaching and mentoring was recognized by students, faculties, and colleagues at MIT.

The achievement was celebrated at the MIT Awards Convocation 2018, which honored MIT students, faculty, staff, and community members who have made outstanding contributions to the shared life of the Institute.
