Battery-free wireless underwater camera featured as a research highlight in Nature Electronics

Signal Kinetics

The battery-free wireless underwater camera developed by Prof. Fadel Adib and colleagues in the Signal Kinetics lab was featured as a Research Highlight in the October issue of Nature Electronics.  The paper, originally published in Nature Communications this September, details the world's first underwater imaging system that can operate wirelessly and relies on harvested acoustic energy without the need for batteries.

The camera’s self-sustaining nature makes it desirable for massive, continuous, and long-term ocean deployments with many applications including marine life discovery, submarine surveillance, and underwater climate change monitoring. In the month since its publication, the paper has been covered by about 100 news outlets including CBC, The Telegraph, Aljazeera, National Geographic, Ars Technica, CNET, and others.
