Sound Interjection is a concept coined by industrial designer Sam Hecht in trying to figure out Yuri Suzuk`s work: "Sound interjection is defined as a person contributing to the atmosphere of a room by way of sound. Often too much emphasis is put on the visual when it comes to the use of our environment. I believe that what Yuri has been doing, is to show a new dimension to the conversation between objects and people. Sound interjection is playful but it is also an illustration of what is possible with the manipulation of product systems." Yuri Suzuki will speak about his perspective on using sound as material.

Biographies

Yuri Suzuki is a sound artist, designer, and electronic musician who produces work that explores the realms of sound through designed pieces. Suzuki was born in Tokyo in 1980. between 1999 and 2005 he worked for Japanese art unit Maywa Denki, where he developed a strong interest in music and technology. In 2005 he moved to London to study at the Royal College of Art. During this time he worked on projects for Yamaha and Moritz Waldemeyer, and after graduating he opened his own studio in London. Suzuki’s work raises questions about the relation between sound and people, and how music and sound affect people’s minds. Suzuki’s sound art pieces and installations have been shown in exhibitions all around the world. In 2013, he was appointed as a platform tutor in the Design Products department at the Royal College of Art London, and began an associate position for Disney, New Radiophonic Workshop and Teenage Engineering. He is the founder of Yuri Suzuki Creative Lab, an R&D consultancy.
