Dr. Brennan Phillips, Assistant Professor at the University of Rhode Island, will speak about lightweight, low-cost technologies to explore undersea environments.

Dr. Brennan Phillips specializes in the development and application of novel instrumentation for oceanographic research. He runs the Underwater Robotics and Imaging Laboratory at University of Rhode Island's Department of Ocean Engineering. Brennan's team is hardware-centric and conducts extensive fieldwork around the world. His current research topics include low-light imaging of deep-sea biology and bioluminescence, soft robotic manipulators, hydraulic systems, distributed sensing, and low-cost, lightweight methods for ocean exploration. He seeks to inspire others by sharing compelling imagery of remote, unexplored undersea environments. Brennan is a National Geographic Explorer and has participated in and/or led dozens of oceanographic research expeditions around the world.
